How Boosting Posts from Your Personal Profile Can Expand Your Reach, Build Authority, and Drive More Sales
For years, one of the biggest limitations on LinkedIn wasn’t what you could post, it was who could see it.
You could write the most insightful text post, share an impactful story, or publish a beautifully designed newsletter edition, but unless you had a large network or were featured by LinkedIn’s algorithm, your reach was capped.
That just changed.
LinkedIn has quietly introduced a new feature that allows individuals….yes, everyday users, not company pages, to boost content directly from their personal profiles.
This means you can now put real momentum behind your best posts without needing a separate business page, advanced ad manager training, or a team of marketing experts.
This isn’t just a small tweak.
It’s a fundamental shift that can help you grow faster, reach further, and get your message in front of the right people at the right time, especially if you’re a coach, consultant, creator, or thought leader using LinkedIn to drive visibility and sales.
In this newsletter, I’m breaking down everything you need to know about this new feature and how to use it strategically to build your business.
What’s New and Why It Matters
Let’s start with the basics:
You can now boost personal posts on LinkedIn.
That includes:
- Text-only posts (think: storytelling, thought leadership, insights)
- Single-image posts (perfect for branded images, quotes, or behind-the-scenes content)
- Uploaded video posts (ideal for short-form value-driven videos or quick personal introductions)
- Newsletter editions (this is huge for content creators building email-style engagement on LinkedIn)
Previously, only company pages had access to paid promotion tools.
That meant if you wanted to increase the reach of your content through paid promotion, you had to post from a company page, which, let’s be honest, gets much lower organic engagement compared to personal profiles.
Now, that’s changed.
And it’s a big win for solo professionals and small business owners.
But why is LinkedIn doing this?
The answer lies in platform economics and user behavior.
LinkedIn Wants You to Stay Longer and Post More
LinkedIn understands that content creators, especially those with strong personal brands, are the heartbeat of its platform.
These are the people generating real conversation, adding unique perspective, and bringing their networks back to LinkedIn daily.
If those people feel restricted in their reach, they post less.
And if they post less, engagement goes down.
Time on the platform drops.
Advertising revenue shrinks.
So, what’s the solution?
Give individual creators more tools to grow their audience and extend their reach.
By allowing post boosting from personal profiles, LinkedIn is incentivizing users like you and me to:
- Double down on high-quality content
- Invest in our own visibility
- Create more conversations (and more revenue for LinkedIn)
It’s smart.
And it opens up a serious opportunity for people who know how to create value-driven content.
What Types of Posts Can You Boost?
Before you start tossing money at every post you publish, it’s important to understand what types of content are eligible and which are not.
Here’s what you can currently boost:
- Text Posts – These are performing incredibly well on LinkedIn right now. They’re fast to consume, rich in perspective, and they keep people on-platform (which the algorithm loves).
- Single Image Posts – These can be powerful when paired with a short caption or thought-provoking insight.
- Native Video Uploads – Short-form videos (especially those that share personal stories, teach a concept, or highlight your personality) are ideal here.
- Newsletter Editions – This is a big one. If you’re using LinkedIn’s newsletter feature as part of your authority-building strategy, you can now promote your best editions to new audiences.
What you can’t currently boost:
- Multi-image carousels
- PDFs/documents
- Event announcements
- Polls
- Articles published via the old “LinkedIn Publishing” platform
- Any post that is “connections only”
This tells us something important:
🔎 LinkedIn wants to promote formats that spark conversation, not just visual consumption.
How It Works (Step-by-Step)
Let’s break down how to boost a post from your personal profile.
Step 1: Create and Publish Your Content
Start by posting normally from your personal profile. You’ll only see the “Boost” option after the content is live.
Step 2: Click the “Boost” Button
Once your post is published, you’ll notice a “Boost” button in the bottom-right corner, near where you would normally see reactions and comments.
Click it.
Step 3: Choose Your Goal
LinkedIn gives you a few goal options depending on the post type. Common objectives include:
- Increase Awareness (get your post in front of more people)
- Drive Engagement (more likes, comments, and shares)
- Website Visits (if the post includes a link)
Choose the objective that aligns with your business goal, not just vanity metrics.
Step 4: Define Your Audience
You can choose to boost your post to:
- Your network and beyond
- Targeted LinkedIn members (based on job title, company size, industry, region, etc.)
This is where things get powerful. You can now get your content in front of your ideal clients without a cold message or awkward introduction.
Step 5: Set Budget and Duration
Decide how long you want to run the promotion and how much you want to spend. You can start with as little as $10 for a minimum of 2 days.
Yes….ten bucks!!
For less than the cost of a Starbucks order, you can start testing what content performs best in front of a cold audience.
Strategic Use Cases for Coaches, Consultants, and Creators
This new feature is great, but only if you use it strategically.
Here are a few ways I recommend using LinkedIn’s new boosting feature:
1. Promote Authority-Building Content
Boost posts that showcase your thought leadership, perspective, or behind-the-scenes story. These help build familiarity and trust.
Think:
- A story about why you started your business
- A lesson you learned from a client
- A personal opinion that challenges conventional thinking
2. Amplify High-Performing Posts
If a post is already gaining traction organically, it’s a sign it’s resonating. Boosting that post can help it go further, fast.
This strategy is ideal for:
- Increasing visibility with the right audience
- Growing your following
- Attracting inbound leads
3. Drive Traffic to an Opt-In or Offer
If you’re promoting a lead magnet, workshop, or landing page, you can link to it inside the post and select “Website Visits” as your campaign goal.
Just remember: content-first, pitch-second. Make sure the post is valuable on its own.
4. Build Awareness for Your LinkedIn Newsletter
If you’re publishing a newsletter like this one, boosting editions that provide major value is a great way to attract subscribers.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Now let’s talk about what not to do.
❌ Mistake 1: Boosting Without Strategy
Don’t boost just to boost. If your content isn’t resonating with your existing audience, putting paid dollars behind it won’t change that.
Start by identifying your best-performing content, then double down on those styles.
❌ Mistake 2: Pitch-Heavy Posts
Nobody wants to be sold to in their feed, especially from someone they don’t know. Boost posts that start conversations, not ones that shout promotions.
Use storytelling and teaching to earn attention first.
❌ Mistake 3: Ignoring Targeting
Don’t waste your budget by sending your post to the wrong people. Think carefully about your ideal client: what industry they’re in, what roles they hold, and where they live.
Use that data to set up targeting that makes sense.
❌ Mistake 4: Not Tracking Performance
Boosting isn’t a “set it and forget it” game. Use LinkedIn’s analytics to track impressions, clicks, and engagement—then tweak and test accordingly.
How This Changes the Game for Authority Builders
Here’s the bottom line:
For coaches, consultants, content creators, and experts who rely on LinkedIn for visibility, this feature unlocks a new level of control.
You can now:
- Take your highest-value content and get it seen by more of the right people
- Grow your audience without spammy outreach
- Establish authority with a cold audience before they ever land in your inbox
And most importantly?
You’re no longer at the mercy of the algorithm.
You can create an opportunity on demand.
If you’ve been sitting on high-quality insights, stories, or teachings, now’s the time to bring them to the surface and get them seen.
This new feature is going to reward the people who are already showing up and providing real value on LinkedIn.
So here’s what I recommend:
Action Step 1: Audit Your Content
Look at your last 30 days of posts. Which ones got the most engagement? Which ones reflect your expertise, personality, and offer?
Pick 1–2 posts that stand out.
Action Step 2: Choose a Boost Test
Start with a small budget: $10–$25 over a 2-7 day period.
Pick your target audience carefully. Boost a post and track the performance.
Action Step 3: Repeat, Tweak, Improve
Not every boost will be a home run. The goal is to learn, improve, and refine your content strategy over time.
If you’re serious about using LinkedIn to attract leads, build visibility, and grow your authority, this is your window of opportunity.
Let’s make the most of it.
